New York Mets 7, Atlanta Braves 0

Kris Benson completely shut down the Braves' offense, and Russ Ortiz continued his struggles as the Braves got routed by the Mets 7-0. If Ortiz continues to pitch like this he'll be moved back in the playoff rotation for sure.

Ortiz (14-8) went 5 and two thirds innings and allowed all 7 runs on 9 hits, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. He seems to be having problems with the home run; I think he had been one of the league leaders in allowing fewest home runs until lately, but he's surely not anymore. His ERA went over 4 for the first time since June. After he left in the 6th, Tom Martin allowed his inherited runs to score on 2 hits without getting anyone out, and Tim Drew had to come on to finish the 6th. Drew also pitched a scoreless 7th. Dan Meyer made his ML debut and pitched well; a scoreless 8th inning allowing one hit and striking out one.

Hitting Stars: Johnny Estrada was 2 for 4. The only other Braves to reach base were Rafael Furcal and Andruw Jones on singles.
