Atlanta Braves 7, Montreal Expos 1

For the second straight start, Paul Byrd put on a show. He pitched 8 innings, allowing only one run on 4 hits, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. He had a shutout going into the 8th, but he seemed to tire. Juan Cruz pitched a scoreless 9th to finish the game.

In what seems to be a trend, this game wasn't really that close once the Braves got on the scoreboard. They scored 3 runs in the 3rd and 4th inning, and added 4 more in the 7th. However, the Braves just missed extending their impressive streak of consecutive games with 10 hits to 13-they finished with 9 hits.

Hitting stars: Eli Marrero only had one hit, but it was a long home run to center field for his 9th homer. Rafael Furcal and Marcus Giles were both 2 for 5. Every Braves starter had a hit except for Eddie Perez, and that's including the pitcher Byrd.

Russ Ortiz is slated to pitch tonight against John Patterson. Patterson was listed for last night, but obviously he didn't pitch as Scott Downs started.
